It's Official: 117 is Tennessine
The wait is over: element 117 will now officially be known as Tennessine. The name recognizes the contributions of scientists at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Vanderbilt University, and the University of Tennessee: including UT Physics Professor Robert Grzywacz. Tennessee, which will appear on the famous chart with the symbol Ts, is only the second U.S. state to be represented in the periodic table (the other is California, via Californium). Though the name was proposed in June, the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry allows for a review period before the official christening of elements.
