First UT Physics Hispanic Luncheon

First Hispanic Luncheon Helps Kick Off Fall Semester

August 27, 2019

On August 26 the physics department hosted our first lunch for Hispanic members of department. More will follow, at the rate of one per semester. We discussed a variety of topics, with each person sharing their experience, particularly with regards to navigating the intricacies of a physics career with so many choices, both at the undergraduate and graduate stages. One of the main conclusions is the crucial role of mentoring to young students, in particular to members of minorities that may feel confused in such a new environment. We also exchanged information about equally important matters, such as, of course, the real football and where and when to play together. Overall, the meeting was a success and the attendance will grow considering the number of students that identified as Hispanics in our department.
